The next demonstration will be on Friday 8th July from 8.00pm to 10.00pm in Market Hill Rooms, when the artist will be Laura Boswell a landscape printmaker working exclusively with linocut and traditional Japanese woodblock. She trained in Japan, studying woodblock printmaking with master craftsmen, and her work is inspired by Japanese style and design. She has a degree in Art History/Visual Art from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and is an elected member to the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers.

The next demonstration will be on Friday 13 May from 8.00pm to 10.00pm in Market Hill Rooms, when our new projection system will be in operation.  The artist this month will be Maureen Mace, and her subject will be “Night skies and miniature brushes”  also advertised in our demo list as “Dreamlike vistas in oil and acrylics”.

Maureen  paints detailed, dream-like images in oils and acrylics, on canvas which incorporate rich night skies and a shining moon. Stories inspired by the detail and pattern of medieval art, tapestries and her imagination. Her work is very influenced by the wonderful city of Cambridge where she lives. The next Royston Library changeover will take place from 3.15 to 4.00pm on Monday 7 March. Please wear a face-mask while in the Library and see Peter’s email for more important information.

Also, don’t forget that membership subscriptions for the year beginning on 1 April 2022 are now due.  If  haven’t already done so you will need to pay the renewal fee of £18 by 31 March to avoid incurring a £2 joining fee (and also to ensure that you are eligible to enter paintings in the 2022 Members’ Online Exhibition).  Details on how to pay were in the email sent out at the end of January by our Membership Secretary, Hazel Haywood – email membership@roystonarts.org.uk

Earlier in January Members should have received Richard Clayton’s email “The way forward post-Covid” and his invitation to respond to a questionnaire.  The questionnaire remains open and there is no deadline for responses, so if you haven’t already responded please consider doing so.  It’s a valuable opportunity to tell us what you think of our current activities and what we should be doing in future, and will help the Committee with its forward planning.  Here’s the link: Royston Arts Society Members Questionnaire

Members should also have received two important emails, with invitations to renew your RAS membership for 2022-23 (deadline for renewals 31 March), and to enter the 2022 Members’ Online Exhibition (deadline for entries 31 March).  Eligibility for the latter will of course depend on having renewed your RAS membership!

Our Annual General Meeting will be held via Zoom on Friday 7th January at 8pm. All members should have received paperwork and joining details by now but if not please contact our Secretary, Peter Morgan, email: secretary@roystonarts.org.uk.

Our next event will be on 14th January when Keith Hornblower FSAI, an internationally-renowned watercolourist will be making a welcome return to RAS. His subject will be a “Snow Scene in Watercolour” (though those who have seen previous demo’s will know that he works quickly and is quite likely to produce a second painting as well). The next exhibition that RAS will be hosting will be the Members Exhibition starting on 16th April 2022 and running through to 18th June 2022 and entry details will be posted on this website and our Facebook page in the new year.

Our next event will be on 10th December when Mark Warner will be the artists demonstrating ‘Seascape in Acrylics’. That will be followed in January by our AGM and details will be circulated in due course.

The RAS 2021 Online Autumn Exhibition, which has now passed the half-way stage, will continue throughout November and end on 1 December. It includes 228 paintings (a record for our online exhibitions) entered by a total of 42 RAS members and non-members. As paintings are sold the artists replace them with new artworks, so the Exhibition repays repeat visits.

Royston Arts Society has decided to cancel its Annual Autumn Exhibition in Royston Town hall. This was due to be held over the weekend of 24th to 26th September as part of Royston Arts Festival.

We will be continuing with the planned Online Autumn Exhibition which is still part of  the arts festival and this will open via the RAS website on Friday 24th September and continue through to 1st December 2021.
